Data relating to waiting times has been published by the Department of Health.
The government unveiled figures for waiting times and activity for 15 key diagnostic tests for the month of October 2012 and they showed there were 652,000 patients still waiting for one of the tests at the end of the period.
Some 3,905 were waiting six weeks or more from referral, which is a decrease of 1,200 from September 2012, as well as a fall of 3,700 from October 2011.
"The 3,905 waiting over six weeks or longer represents 0.6 per cent of all patients waiting for a test," it was noted by the Department of Health.
Speaking in the House of Commons recently, shadow health secretary and Labour MP Andy Burnham claimed the government has kept thousands of people off waiting lists in a bid to save money from the NHS budget.
