New film could encourage older adults to get sporty

A new film could be set to encourage more older adults to get sporty through its depiction of eight pensioner ping pong players from across the world.

Simply entitled Ping Pong, the feature tracks the older adults as they prepare for and compete in the over 80s category in the World Table Tennis Championships.

Among the film's stars are British Table Tennis champion Les D’Arcy, 89, Australian Dorothy DeLow, 100, Texan Lisa Modlich, 85.

Boris Johnson, mayor of London, commented: "You're never too young for sport... and it seems never too old. These determined whiff whaffers set an example to all of us."

Britdoc and Banyak Films, producers of the picture, hope that the film will travel across the country, reaching care home residents and encouraging them to get active.

With research showing that exercise is key to maintaining health, the message of the film is an important one and will hopefully lead to more people joining exercise groups in the future.
