Organisations across the country are coming together to address the challenges facing the UK's aging society.
The Age Action Alliance is comprised of members of the voluntary, private and public sectors and aims to improve the lives of older adults and make communities better places in which to grow old.
"We must do more to reach out to older generations," stated prime minister David Cameron. "Not only to help the most vulnerable but also to better understand their needs and recognise the important role they play in society."
The Alliance will also use its wide array of particular skills to improve the lives of the most disadvantaged sectors of the ageing population to prevent poverty in later life.
It is hoped that this will result in older adults being visible and respected entities in society, informed and in charge of their health and wellbeing, and safe, secure, and supported within their own communities.
