MS Society: Future of care looks positive

The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society announced its attendance at a recent conference hosted by the secretary of state for health, as well as the minster for care services, adding to discussions on reform of the current care and support system.

Representatives from the charity were guests of MP Andy Burnham, who hosted the get-together to spark discussion that could help create content on the white paper; one that aims to set out a new course of action for the reform of social care.

The MS Society was one of seventeen major charities included in a letter to the Times on February 13th, which asked for political parties to approach the issue of a care reform without petty point-scoring tactics.

Head of policy & campaigns at the MS Society Laura Weir said the MS Society is pleased to support these first steps towards the creation of a cross-party consensus on the delivery of long-term solutions to those with the devastating condition.

"We welcome the attention that social care is receiving," she continued. "This is not just an issue that affects the elderly - thousands of people at working age could benefit from flexible, personalised and responsive social care."

It follows news that teen soap Hollyoaks has introduced a new storyline in which involves a character living with MS.
