Manchester runners raise £25k for Parkinson's research

A leading Parkinson's disease charity has thanked the dedicated supporters took part in the Great Manchester Run.

In an aim to raise around £25,000 to improve the quality of those for people affected by the condition, 96 runners completed the ten-kilometre course on behalf of Parkinson's UK.

Paul Jackson-Clark, fundraising director for Parkinson's UK, expressed the charity's gratitude towards both those who ran at the event and those who came to cheer them on.

"We are totally dependant on voluntary donations, so it is the dedication of our fundraisers that really makes a difference to the work we do for people with Parkinson's," he said.

One of the proud runners was the charity's own north-west information and support worker Danny Mills.

Mr Mills said he wanted to take part in the event to help drive Parkinson's research forwards.

According to Parkinson's UK, one in every 500 people in the UK has the disease, equating to around 120,000 citizens.
