Is a lack of confidence causing you to eat unhealthily?

People could be making poor choices when it comes to food because they have a lack of confidence.

This is the opinion of Sian Porter, dietician and spokeswoman for the British Dietetic Association (BDA).

"It is [about] having the confidence – not just the knowledge – to have the right equipment and access to the right ingredients," she said.

Some are unsure of how to go about making healthy meals, although they know the sort of things that should be included in them.

This can be compounded during times when money is particularly tight, as there is a misconception that healthy food costs more.

However, fresh fruit and vegetables - staples of any diet - are much cheaper than processed foods.

It is important that older adults ensure that they are eating the right foods, as a healthy diet is essential for fighting off common age-associated conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease and dementia.
