Kirkburn Care Home nurse still in running for award

Nurse Gwen Neale at the Kirkburn Court Care Home has been nominated for the Barchester Care Awards 2010.

Ms Neale has made it through to the semi-finals of the competition in the Registered Nurse category, reports the Buchan Observer.

Speaking to the newspaper, the Barchester care home's general manager Susan Warrender explained: "I am so proud of Gwen!

"It's a great achievement that she has been selected as a semi-finalist and testament to her hard work."

Last year, Barchester won three awards across five categories at the National Workforce Development Awards.

Accolades were received for Macro Employer of the Year, Integrating Employment and Skills, and Supporting Young Talent.

The company was the only care provider nominated for the competition, which saw the Army, Navy, BT and British Gas all up for awards.

Following the awards, a statement by Barchester indicated that the awards highlight the company's commitment to apprenticeship work, placement schemes and developing talent.
