Healthier lifestyles 'could cut cancer globally'

Healthier lifestyles 'could cut cancer globally'

People looking to find a care home who are keen to cut their risk of developing cancer may want to ensure their lifestyle is a healthy one.

Professor Martin Wiseman, medical and scientific adviser for the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) has commented that leading a healthy lifestyle involving a good diet and plenty of exercise could significantly reduce cancer risk.

Other than not smoking, individuals should consume a diet rich in vegetables, wholegrains and fruit. Meat and dairy can be eaten in moderation, while excess amounts of alcohol, salt or processed meat should be avoided.

The WCRF has recently stated that global healthy living and better diet could prevent some 2.8 million cancer cases each year.

"If nothing is done, we can expect an inexorable rise in obesity and inactivity around the world, even in places where hunger is common, and this will lead to more cases of cancer as surely as night follows day," commented Professor Wiseman.
