The government has announced that it is launching new safeguards across the health service in a bid to provide a greater level of protection for patients.
A Health Special Administration consultation published today (November 1st) looks to protect the services that patients need by extending them to NHS options provided by social enterprises and other companies.
Lord Howe, health minister, explained groups such as charities, social enterprises and independent providers all play an important part in providing NHS care.
"They can help give patients more choice of where and how they are treated by the health service," he said, adding it is vital that when patients are treated in the health service they are given a high quality service that they can rely on.
Data revealed by the Department of Health recently showed the vast majority of patients are satisfied with the level of care they receive from the NHS.
