Forget-me-not flowers to help with dementia treatment

A new sticker scheme is being introduced at hospitals across Bradford to improve the care of patients with dementia.

The sticker is of a forget-me-not flower and will be placed inside each patient's file and above their beds to ensure nurses are aware of their condition and are in a position to offer the best possible care.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus reports that officials behind the scheme hope to make Bradford Teaching Hospitals a centre of excellence for dementia care.

Head of nursing for medicine Dawn Parkes said. "The forget-me-knot scheme is another example of our drive to improve our continuing care, treatment and support for this vulnerable patient group."

As part of the launch of the scheme, a Christmas tree has been placed in the entrance of Bradford Royal Infirmary and people are being encouraged to write down thoughts and memories that can be attached to the branches.

The hospital has also introduced memory boxes on some wards, where dementia patients can keep photographs and reminders of treasured memories to help unlock their long-term memory when engaging with staff.
