Dumfries care worker reaches national semi-final

A staff nurse from a care home in Dumfries has made it through to the semi-final of a national award, in recognition of his work with older people.

Andrew Boyd works at the Lochduchar care home where he is also a team leader, improving the quality of life for older residents with dementia, the Dumfries Courier reports.

In recognition of this, Mr Boyd is now through to the penultimate stage of the annual Barchester Care Awards, in the Memory Lane Champion category.

The Lochduchar's general manager Wendy Carruthers told the newspaper that everyone at the home was proud of Mr Boyd's achievement.

She added: "It's a great achievement that he has been selected as a finalist and testament to his hard work.

"Across the company, we encourage and celebrate excellence in all areas of care, from hospitality to nursing.''

Lochduchar care home provides 24-hour nursing care and specialist care for those living with dementia in the Memory Lane Community.
