DoH looks to use social care resources more effectively

Social care to be moved out of hospitals and into communities as the Department of Health looks to improve workforce resourcing.

A new organisation has been created to help the NHS and social care groups plan their resources more effectively, the Department of Health (DoH) has announced.

The Centre for Workforce Intelligence (CWI) will help move resources into the "frontline", while moving care from hospitals to the larger communities, the DoH claims.

Workforce planning needs to be strengthened at all levels if the standard of care in Britain is to improve, according to the health minister, Ann Kean.

"The new Centre for Workforce Intelligence will provide an authoritative resource on workforce planning for national and local organisations promoting best practice, looking out for potential staffing issues and providing high-quality data," she added.

CWI chief executive Peter Sharp said the organisation was there simply to support senior management, enabling it to deliver the services.

He added that he hoped that the centre would become the "primary source" for healthcare staffing data.

The government will release their white paper outlining planned reform of the social care system later on today.
