Dementia cases in Norfolk 'rising by 30 per cent each year'

The number of people developing dementia in Norfolk appears to be increasing by 30 per cent year-on year.

These surprising figures come from the Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health Foundation Trust, which is now seeking to raise awareness of the devastating condition, the BBC reports.

In order to do this, the trust is holding a roadshow called Memory Matters in Aylsham, and it is hoped that this will prompt more people to seek early diagnosis when their memory starts to fade.

"The earlier a person gets diagnosed with dementia, the sooner they and their family can come to terms with the situation and be better informed and less worried," Maggie Wheeler, chair of the Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health Foundation Trust, told the news provider.

This roadshow mirrors the actions of the Alzheimer's Society, which has launched its own campaign, via leaflets and posters in more than 10,000 GP surgeries, urging anyone worrying about their memory to get themselves checked by a doctor.
