Dementia app now available

An app to reduce dementia risk is now available for Android phone users.

Developed by Alzheimer's Australia and Bupa Health Foundation, the BrainyApp was first made available for iPhone and iPad last year and has been downloaded more than 200,000 times.

The app tests brain-heart health and highlights areas that users should improve upon to reduce their dementia risk.

People are offered a list of useful activities they can do to enhance their cognitive health and are able to track their progress.

Ita Buttrose, Alzheimer's Australia national president, commented: "It is extremely encouraging to see that so many people want to make active lifestyle changes to reduce their risk of developing dementia."

App users are also able to access information about dementia, to improve their awareness.

Knowledge about the condition is vital to increase the number of patients receiving early diagnosis, as it highlights them to the symptoms of dementia.
