Charity seeking grant to fund dementia care programme

An older person's charity is calling for support to help assist people living with dementia in Devon.

The regional branch of Age UK has entered the Jubilee People's Millions competition, a grants programme run by the Big Lottery Fund in conjunction with ITV.

Age UK Devon is seeking a grant to develop "reminiscence tours" throughout the county for dementia patients and their carers.

The charity says that the scheme has proven therapeutic benefits, using all five senses to help people with the neurological condition to remember moments from their past, improving their mood and helping to develop new relationships.

Age UK Devon is now appealing to the public for their support in voting for the project during the competition.

Charity representative Nina Parnell explained: "We want to create more opportunities for social interaction and involvement in community life for people with dementia and their carers.

"Caring for people with dementia is everyone's responsibility."
