Charity aims to make Falmouth the country's first dementia-friendly town

A charitable group in Cornwall has made raising awareness of dementia its mission.

The Rotary Club of Falmouth visited a number of businesses in the town and signed them up to the newly formed Dementia Action Alliance.

Officially, the alliance will not launch until May, but the Rotary Club's actions have already secured the services of 15 firms and organisations, all which have said they will try to support and improve the lives of people  who have the cognitive disorder in the region.

Bob Bridges, joint co-ordinator of the alliance, told the Falmouth Packet that the aim of the campaign is to make the Cornish resort the first dementia-friendly town in Britain.

He added: "No cost is involved. Signing up to the Falmouth Action Alliance will not only be good for business but it will help those who are affected by the disease to remain comfortable in our community."

The alliance will host an official launch event at the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth on May 22nd.
