Care home residents hold garden party for Queen's birthday

Residents at a care home in Shrewsbury were joined by the local mayor at a garden party to celebrate the Queen's birthday.

Mayor Kath Owen joined the people of Ottley House care home in the Coton Hill area of the town to celebrate the monarch's official birthday, reports the Shrewsbury Chronicle.

Residents and visitors alike enjoyed strawberries and cream in the sun, while a number of stalls were on display and a raffle gave out prizes to lucky guests.

Ottley House's activities organiser Cath Smallman told the newspaper that everyone at the event had fun in the sun.

"It was held by the Barchester Foundation which runs the centre as a special one-off event. We also had a harpist which everyone enjoyed," she said.

Ottley House is in a semi-rural location, providing 24-hour nursing care, as well as looking after people with dementia in the Memory Lane Community.
