Supported living

Supported living

The aim of supported living is to give individuals the opportunity to live independently in their own home, making their own choices and leading their life in the way they want to.

Barchester works in partnership with housing associations to support people to find their own home, to decide who they want to support them by being involved in selecting their own support staff, planning the training their staff will receive, based on their needs, and then devising the structure and times for how and when they want to be supported.

We work closely with the people we support, those within their social network and with our colleagues in health and social care through an open and transparent approach with clear and ongoing communication.

We believe that every service design is unique, in the same way that each and every one of us are unique individuals and we work with the people we are supporting to develop their own individual service design

Some of the key choices people will be able to make are:

  • What support do I want?
  • How many hours a day?
  • Who do I want to support me and how?
  • Where do I want to live, what accommodation do I want?
  • Who would I like to live with or do I want to live alone?
  • How I want to spend my time?
  • What is the budget for my service - have I got an Individual Budget or Direct Payments, how will my care manager or funding authority work with me?

Barchester can offer advice and assistance by signposting housing associations, or other appropriate support providers, to enable people to find their ideal support package and we help people to find out about accessing benefits and getting information about individual budgets and direct payments.

At Barchester we support people to create their own 24/7 support programme based on their wishes, desires and goals.
We embrace individuality and the life choices of the people we are supporting

"You tell us what you want, how you want us to support you and we'll do it!"
