Scottish MP helps older people stay warm this winter

A Scottish MP is encouraging older people in his constituency to call a free helpline to help them to stay warm over the winter months.

Angus MP Mike Weir is advising local residents to call the Home Heat Helpline for free, impartial and confidential advice about paying energy bills and keeping warm. This includes assistance with new boilers, discount schemes, rebate schemes, insulation and new boilers, Forfar Dispatch reports.

Callers can also find out if they are eligible for the Warm Home Discount, which can give recipients £140 off their electricity bill, helping people to heat their house over winter.

Mr Weir urged anyone in the local area who is concerned about staying warm in the approach to winter to call 0800 33 66 99.

“I would also ask people to look out for neighbours, friends or relatives who may be in difficulty and make sure that they are aware of the Home Heat Helpline and consider calling on their behalf,” he went on to add.
