Glorious National Care Home Open Day with Gloria Hunniford

Gloria Hunniford, Ambassador of National Care Home Open Day 2014, visited Barchester's Atfield House in Isleworth to get the day's celebrations in full swing.

Barchester staff and residents were delighted to see Gloria sign the home visitor book before heading to the World Cup themed lounge where a football quiz was underway.

As part of National Care Home Open Day, care homes around the country took part in a Mexican care wave. As the BBQ was lit and everyone headed out to enjoy the summer sunshine, Gloria kicked-off the garden party with a care wave.

Gloria Hunniford, said: ''The National Care Home Open Day is a great opportunity for people to see for themselves the quality of the care services in their neighbourhoods.

“Care homes and their residents are an important but sometimes overlooked part of our society. The National Care Home Open Day will help strengthen the relationships between care home residents, staff and their next door neighbours. It may even encourage a few people to think about volunteering to do something during the rest of the year to support and befriend residents in local care homes.”

Elaine Robson, General Manager at Atfield House, said: "It took us a few attempts to get synchronised with the Mexican care wave and it made the day even more special when Gloria walked through our doors. It's been a fantastic event!

"Raising awareness and changing perceptions about care and care homes is so important. Barchester homes host events year-round and we always welcome community engagement."
