"Friendly, happy staff who laugh and joke with my husband and make him smile. My husband has settled in well in the short space of time he has been resident. The nursing care has been excellent. My husband was transferred to Wilsmere Care Home from hospital after a very long illness."

"I cannot thank all the staff enough for the great care they gave my dad. Nothing was too much trouble. Not only did they care for Dad, but cared for my mum, my husband and myself, making sure we were ok and coping. The staff would regularly check on Dad, and when he eventually had to stay in bed, they took care of all his needs. We were kept up to date on all Dad's care and any changes that may have needed to be made."

"I am very happy with the service at Barchester Wilsmere House, the staff look after my mum so well. I find the staff and management approachable (this is very important) to myself and family. The activities staff are excellent. They always put on great shows and included my mum in the majority of the activities. My mum's persoanl care is done excellently as I like it done. My mum always looks well groomed and well dressed and well turned out."

"Mum moved to Wilsmere in June from another care home. From the beginning her care needs have been met to a high standard. Mum has an excellent routine from personal care to attention to her nutrition and even her makeup. Staff are always positive, friendly and smiling when Mum's dementia makes caring more challenging. The activities co-ordinators always see that Mum is involved and there is attention paid to her as an individual."

"On the Kenton unit, all residents and their families are treated with the utmost respect and care. No task is too big for the staff who go out of their way to not only care excellently for the residents but also get to know the residents on a personal level. There is an atmosphere of care, joy and family throughout this unit."

"My mother has resided at Wilsmere Care Home since January 2023. My family and I have been extremely impressed by the care and professional nursing treatment she has received since this has become her home. The staff are very friendly and engaging and Mum who is fortunately still very lucid and bright has nothing but praise for everybody involved in her care. Whenever I visit Mum, the nurse on duty, in particular, is always very informative about her progress or any issues she may have. When my brothers and I leave Mum to go home we are all happy that she is in a very safe environment. Recently when she had to go to hospital briefly she was very keen to get back to Wilsmere House and 'see her chums'. I think that speaks volumes."

"My husband has been a resident in Wilsmere, Whitegate Ward for nearly six years and receives total care day and night. All the staff are calm, unhurried, kind, reassuring, gentle, warm and friendly always and this extends to the visiting family members also. I have great peace of mind knowing that my husband is so well looked after by the carers and careful monitoring by the nurses. A shout-out to the reception staff, always ready with a welcome and a smile and the activity staff who put in so much effort to provide entertainment and spend time with the residents. Lastly, a manager who carries out a remarkable role in knowing all the residents and families and is always in her office or at the end of a phone if the need arises. I cannot praise Wilsmere highly enough. The residents are indeed fortunate to be looked after with such care and dignity."

"I have no hesitation in recommending Wilsmere House Care Home to anyone looking for exceptional care for their loved one or, indeed, for themselves. My husband has complex care needs and has received care over and above expectations. The physiotherapy team have gone out of their way to improve his mobility and where this was limited they have sourced the right equipment to enable his mobility and improve his symptoms were relieved."

"From the moment my husband arrived at the place he has been treated with dignity and respect. I see the genuine love and care given by the nurses and carers to each resident and I am touched by the devotion and care given to each resident. I am here every day and I observed everything they do. You can't expect perfection in everything but what we are getting from Barchester Wilsmere House Care Home gives me a good night's sleep each night. "When my son went into Wilsmere House, I was devastated and worried how he would be looked after, thank god I was so wrong. The staff are friendly, professional, kind and informative, and they are an extended family now. One lady absolutely looks after him; he’s always clean and happy. I truly can’t fault this home. "After trying out several homes, my brother arrived at Brookfield unit, Wilsmere House, a difficult and cantankerous character, who could have so easily riled the staff. Instead, the staff at Wilsmere, especially two members, took the time to get to know, understand him and his needs, and treated him with respect and dignity to ensure his medical needs were addressed, so much so, he refused to go to the hospital as he felt the care offered went beyond what any hospital could offer. As a very intelligent man, he never suffered fools, but here, he was able to have intelligent conversations and felt the staff understood his condition. He was dealt with very much on a personal level, by all, including the chef. I always felt welcome, offered coffee or tea etc, and whether in person or on the phone, my questions and enquiries were addressed, calls returned, and I was always kept informed. Choosing a care home is never the preferred option, but Wilsmere House eases the pressure."

"I’ve waited a while to write this review to give me the opportunity to experience the care home in-dept At first view the home felt ideal for my husband, everyone was very welcoming and interested in understanding my husband's required needs and interests. Within the first few days, staff spent a lot of time with me for them to understand my husband's personality, likes and dislikes, to ensure they made him feel safe and at home. Due to my anxiety, I came across as harsh on what I expected but at no point did I feel like a burden or not being listened to. The team has not let me down to date, they have spent time to get to know him, make him feel welcomed and ensure he never feels isolated. Brilliant communication and updates between the home and families. Kenton unit is a family environment, it’s full of comfort and laughter between staff and residents. Staff work extremely hard. The management's door is always open for a quick chat or to settle any worries. Fantastic team - thank you!"

"Staff in general in all areas are friendly, caring and make visitors feel very welcome and comfortable. On Whitegate ward, I feel staff are particularly caring with regard to all residents, treating them as individuals and getting to understand their specific needs. "My relative only spent 6 days in the home at the end of his life, however, they gave him love, dignity and understanding during this period in his life. He had suffered a poor experience in a previous home and staff calling him Sir meant so much to both of us. When he became very sick the care and commitment of the staff were excellent. My relative loved the home and it held a happy memory for him when he, unfortunately, had to return to hospital. The clinical care in the home needs to be commended and built on as this was the only home I found that understood liver failure. I will be eternally grateful for the care and understanding the staff showed us. Thank you."

The home is undergoing a major renovation at present which should enhance the environment for the residents when completed. The quality of entertainments for the residents is good with new multicultural themed events reflecting the diversity of the residents introduced this year."

"The care for my daughter and support offered to my family has been exceptional. The nurses are calm, confident and make sure you are fully informed and involved when there is a medical change. They never make us feel that we are being over anxious, even when we are. The carers are lovely. They treat my daughter like a young woman, pay attention to her hair and personal hygiene and talk to her normally, with warmth and humour, even though she can't respond. We worried that her inability to communicate might result in pain or discomfort being ignored but the staff are excellent in picking up non-verbal communication. We feel we can trust the staff to anticipate her needs and provide for them. The ability to get tea and coffee at any time is welcome. The administrator seems to know each resident by name and nothing is ever too much trouble. I like the fact that the manager makes herself available and is visible and that visiting is permitted 24/7 - signs of a well-managed home."

"My mother was a resident at Wilsmere House since March 2017. Throughout her residence she was extremely well cared for, always looked relaxed, clean and smart. Unfortunately, mum lost her battle with her illness in August and the home was excellent with her end of life care. They kept the family well informed and involved. Mum passed away peacefully in no pain or distress with my sister and I. Mum was supported well and unobtrusively by the lovely, caring staff and we have been advised and supported by the home, following her passing."

"I would recommend this care home to anyone who needed one because they looked after my brother to a very high standard from start to finish. The staff were very loving and caring towards their patients, and their relatives. They were always there when you needed them, they know their jobs and they all did it well without any complaints from the staff or me. Even in my brothers last days, they knew what they were doing and done it professionally when we as a family were all over the place. At the end, my brother went peacefully with dignity and respect and I can't thank the staff at Wilsmere House enough for all that they did. Thank you."

"My sister was admitted in July 2017, she is cared and looked after extremely well according to her needs. She is kept clean, clothes are washed regularly. Her room and bed covers regularly changed. "Mum had been in another home but it was closing down. As mum was moving to an unknown home I had concerns of what it would be like. I found all the staff to be very proficient and caring from the nurse who was with mum when she passed away 2 hours before we could get to the home and to one member of staff whose support and outside the box help were beyond words."

However, during his brief stay there, the staff could not have been more caring and attentive towards him, making sure he was comfortable and content. "I cannot explain how relieved I felt when leaving my husband for respite because the care received was exceptional - gentle, patient and warm. The front foyer is so welcoming where visitors can have coffee and cake anytime, which is actually very important and eases the visiting hours at sad times. All the staff are amazing, so kind, friendly, supportive, with time for everyone including visitors. Bravo Wilsmere - be proud of all you achieve to ease the lives of everyone needing care."

"My brother has been a service user at the Willsmere Care Home for nearly 3 years. I have no major concerns in regard to how the care home is run. However, I was concerned at the lack of communication from staff when the fire alarm went off a few weeks ago. There were no clear procedures in place in regards to where visitors should go or evacuation of service users. I believe there should be routine procedures placed in each room."

"My Grandmother was a resident at Wilsmere for over three years. Generally, her care was good. She had some excellent care given by some although not all, as with many care homes, staff come and go and some people are not interested in the people. It is very important, especially with dementia that good relationships are formed. The management staff varied. Some more committed than others. Overall a good experience, with good nursing care."

"My mother was cared for well and looked after well. The arrangement for the G.P. was good and the G.P. looked after her well as well. Especially I appreciate the nurse in charge and all the other nurses who cared and gave her medication in time. All the supporting staff and others are very kind and treated and cared for my mother well. Managers and assistant managers and all the management team are good and provided a great service to my mother. Overall the service is great. The building is very neat and clean."

"As an advocate, it is very important for me to have an open and supportive relationship with the home. I find the care manager and staff very open to feedback and put into action my recommendations to improve the quality of care. I find the care to be kind and very sensitive to the needs of the residents. Of course, they can always improve in dementia knowledge in the interest of residents but overall, I would recommend this home!!"

"My relative has been resident at Wilsmere House since February 2016 and her physical health and appearance have been completely transformed for the better thanks to the care and attention that she has received. The staff all treat her with great kindness and respect. She enjoys her meals and activities, particularly those that involve music. Her room is not large, but she only uses it as a bedroom, preferring to spend the day in the large and comfortable lounge. I would not hesitate to recommend this care home."

"My husband has LBD and Parkinsons and went into Wilsmere House at the end of July and sadly passed away on the 15th of October. He had the best care possible and the staff were always kind and helpful, not only to him but to us, his family. In fact, they all became like our own family. The only negative thing is that the staff were extremely overworked and there were not enough to them to do this wonderful and needed job. I would certainly recommend this care home."
