"Mum moved to Marnel Lodge in December 2023 in a bit of a rush as she'd sadly suffered a stroke and lost her inability to live independently. We were devastated when the hospital wanted to discharge her so close to Christmas, it was such a stressful time for us all. Her placement at Marnel was only supposed to be temporary whilst we awaited a vacancy at her first choice of care home, but we've since made the decision for her to stay there permanently as the care she's received has been second to none. The staff are so friendly and keep you updated with every change or notification, we never have to worry about Mum's safety or happiness which is so comforting. The staff know Mum well which shows us they take the time to know her on a personal level, she loves the food, and the atmosphere is always positive and vibrant. Particular thanks to one member of staff in particular who answers all my random questions and always responds immediately, and another member of staff who calls me regularly with health and well-being updates. Would 100% recommend."

"Our mother loved being at Marnel Lodge; she called it home. She became very attached to her carers and other staff all of whom are kind, considerate, supportive and happy to accommodate Mum's needs, nothing was too much trouble. Marnels excellent care starts with each individual carer, and their actions and sense of responsibility to the residents. The home is modern, and the decor is light and bright and of an excellent standard. There are lots of other activities which cater for all interests and abilities which provide interaction with other residents and friendships were formed. Outside is a lovely garden which she loved to sit in. My sister and I were happy that she was able to receive the best care and we would have no hesitation in recommending Marnel."

"I am a full-time carer for my husband at home and finding Marnel Lodge Care Home for respite care has been a saving grace for me this last year. He has been to Marnel Lodge four times this year. In October I needed respite care for my husband at short notice and I was able to get him there within a few days. The staff at all levels are friendly, helpful, professional and caring. He enjoys his food (which is excellent) and is very content with his accommodation. I know he is in safe hands and well looked after."

"When my brother-in-law was admitted, he was very poorly and confused. Since he has been with yourselves, he has recovered both mentally and physically, no doubt down to the staff and doctors in the home. He is enjoying his stay because, as he says, he feels safe and secure, on his own at home he felt very vulnerable and couldn't look after himself."

"My nana lives at Marnel Lodge. She has complex needs but is treated with dignity and respect. She always looks good. She looks like my nana even though she is frail now. "My mother enjoyed a new lease on life at Marnel Lodge Care Home, she connected meaningfully with staff and other residents and at the age of 84 found a new best friend. The care Mum received was beautiful, the attention to detail in the housekeeping was excellent and Mum enjoyed the activities put on each week. She particularly loved the musical concerts and walking around the beautiful garden. The staff also supported us as a family and even through the Covid pandemic, they did all they could to help us connect with Mum and keep everyone safe."

"Both of my parents have spent time in Marnel Lodge and both were cared for with the greatest respect and kindness. The staff go above and beyond to ensure the residents are happy. It felt like having a second family when I went to visit as the staff are always so warm and welcoming. When my mum passed away from terminal cancer, I felt sad not only for losing her, but also because I would not see the staff again. They were incredibly supportive when times were tough and I could tell that they were all personally invested in my mum's care. Thank you so much."

"We have visited several residents over eight years. The outside appearance and approach is splendid. The way one is greeted on entry is always courteous and smiling. Observing staff with residents - all treated with respect - residents are involved in any comments to us when we are in rooms/communal areas. The environment could scarcely be improved; clean, no grubby paintwork, displays are brilliant, white tablecloths! Everything communicates a pleasant, caring and ordinary place to be. Your range of activities is commendable. Well done."

"The care my grandfather received at Marnel was exceptional. All of the carers went above and beyond to ensure he settled in and was cared for to a very high standard at all times. There was always a great variety of activities and some lovely meals that he really enjoyed. The communication from all of the team was always brilliant; they were also incredibly welcoming at all times during visiting - even when faced with the difficulties that Covid presented. All of the home has a homely comfortable feel, and I couldn't have asked for a better place for my grandad."

"My grandmother has been at Marnel Lodge for nine years and the care has always been exemplary. The food always looks amazing and the staff also make us feel so welcome as a family. My daughter absolutely loves her visit weekly to her Nana but also all the team! There is also a lovely little cafe where they serve cakes and drinks for the family which makes it nice to socialise with my Nana outside of her room. The gardens are really well maintained and beautiful to sit in in the summer."

"The staff always showed utmost kindness whilst they were looking after my dad over the past year but very specifically provided wonderful care in his final days. These times are never easy but the staff were amazing and looked after us all so well. They were supportive to our requests, extremely caring towards Dad's needs and showed us a huge amount of respect and care in his final hours. They gave us room to grief but support when we had questions. We couldn't have wished for anything else. When Dad passed, the staff said such wonderful things about him, which really touched my heart and helped so much in his passing. We were treated so personally even though I guess they deal with this all the time. Thank you."

"My mum has been at Marnel Lodge Care Home for 9 years and has always been looked after well during that time, even when things were difficult during Covid. The staff and facilities have been great-always kept up to date on mum's health, and any issues have been dealt with. Cafe/garden/lounge areas are great to use and get Mum out of her room, as she is mostly bed bound. Lots of activities and visitors are warmly welcomed. I am so pleased Mum was able to help choose her home and I know she will always be kept safe. Both my wife and I have worked in and with the care sector professionally for many years and can highly recommend this home."

"My mother lived in Marnel Lodge Care Home from November 2019 to November 2022. She was always very well looked after and cared for. All the staff were really kind and attentive. Toward the end, my mother was very unwell but continued to receive excellent care right to the very last moment. From the point of view of a relative, I also always felt included in all my mother's care and the staff was also very kind and thoughtful through some difficult times. I will always be very grateful to everyone at Marnel Lodge."

"My mother has been in Marnel Lodge since the middle of February 2022 and has settled in very well. The staff are attentive and caring, and she seems to be happy in her new environment, which makes me and my family happy too. The convenient location and the layout and decoration are very appealing, along with an attractive garden. Nice to see the varied activities restarting after a Covid lockdown. I would definitely recommend."

"Mum a Dementia player, broke her wrist and hip holding her back in any game of kiss chase, but with the right care would see her return to playing cards. Covid-19 a challenge she beat to allow her to make progress to a card table, Marnel Lodge care team offered a warm welcoming and positive service to Mum and us. When you cannot visit your loved one, communication is very important. The team made sure that we could talk to Mum by phone or video whenever we wanted. They made all staff available for update on medication, exercise, food intake and activities, allowing us to be more part of the experience Mum was having. Sharing photos of Mum around the home in the garden and taking part in activities gave us a great feeling that Mum was starting to get the sort of care we had hoped for her since the very first bump. As Mum faded, the team continued to encourage communication. We cannot thank the whole team for going more than the extra mile to give Mum a dignified and comfortable journey to a better place. Thank you."

"Our mother has settled very well in Marnel Lodge since joining the Marnel Lodge family late last year. She has become very attached to her carers and other staff all of whom are kind, considerate, supportive and happy to accommodate mum's requirements; nothing is too much trouble. The home is modern and the decor is light and bright and of an excellent standard. There is a cinema room with a huge screen which is a real treat for mum who has always loved films; popcorn and refreshments are served too. There are lots of other activities which cater for all interests and abilities which provide interaction with other residents and friendships have been formed. Outside is a lovely garden which she is looking forward to sitting in, but the weather has prevented this to date. My sister and I are so happy that mum is receiving the best care and we would have no hesitation in recommending Marnel."

"As a trained carer, this care home is without a doubt the best I have ever visited! Attention to detail, fast communication, friendly and fully trained staff. Everyone treats you as a "family". Home feels fresh, newly redecorated with many things to do for the residents and their family. Never had a problem, despite my Father in Law's "challenging behaviour". Everyone is responding very professionally. My Father in Law is having a great time. The home also has a great chef!"

"My nan has only been here since end of May and the service has been wonderful. It has been difficult for her to settle due to her age 109 nearly. The staff have gone out of their way, there are always things going on. They will always sort meals etc if not suitable for her. The manager goes out of his way to make sure things are OK if anything needs doing he gets on and sorts it straight away. So glad she is there."

"I was very worried about having to put my mother into a nursing home following a serious stroke. Once I found Marnel Lodge all my concerns have gone. Marnel is modern, clean, friendly, with plenty of staff to care for the residents. There are afternoon activities to stimulate residents. The gardens are beautiful and well maintained. "The staff have really welcomed Dad into the home in what is a very stressful time and have been very supportive to my sister and I. "I have nothing but praise for all of the staff here - from the gardener and odd-job (maintenance) man, laundry ladies, chef etc to the carers of all grades. They always have a smile and a hello even if they don't know me and are so kind and thoughtful to my husband and me. Ready with lovely hugs when needed and cups of tea. "Generally, dad is well looked after, has good meals and complaints one followed through. Sometimes there is confusion when dad is not well and not always clear as to what nursing staff are doing. Bathroom is not always left tidy, tubes left off toothpaste etc."

"My uncle needed care and company and he now has both. Marnel Lodge is a lovely care home. The rooms are lovely so are the staff, nothing is too much trouble. It is welcoming and my uncle loves it and he has improved in many ways. All the residents are happy and the food is excellent. Nursing and cares are excellent so are managers there. "Since recovering from skin graft surgery after 2 falls, mum has come on leaps and bounds. Being in Marnel Lodge she is chatty and friendly and the staff are fabulous with her. "Ever since dad has been at Marnel Lodge, he has come on leaps and bounds. Ten weeks ago, he wasn't given long to live - 3 months - but now he is feeding himself, with help and also sitting in a wheelchair that he hadn't done for over two years. He is a changed person and it's all down to the staff at Marnel Lodge. I did breath a big sigh of relief on the day he joined as I knew he would be looked after."

"Until it happens to you, it is impossible to understand the stress and complexities of dealing with a loved one's health, mental welfare and financial issues. I visited many homes of varying degrees and costs and concluded that Marnel Lodge was an outstanding candidate for my mother's care. The staff were welcoming and sympathetic and knowledgeable. Despite this being very early days for my mother's care, my intuition is that the responsive manner demonstrated thus far, will continue."

"My father arrived at Marnel Lodge in May 2017 and soon settled in to enjoy the comforts of being cared for by a loving team. He also started to enjoy the number of activities that are a big part of the home which he could choose to take part in, or not. It was always what Dad wanted to do. Having a long complex medical history, the care he received was second to none. When his health started to fail further his end of life plan was implemented and all my sister and I can say is that he was cared for with love, compassion and dignity right to the end for which we are truly grateful. If you are reading this review deciding to place your loved one into a home, please remember that Marnel Lodge is only what it is today because of the 'whole' caring Marnel, which make it the special place it is. I would highly recommend this home."

"My father has resided at Marnel Lodge for the last nine months. In that time he received exemplary care. The staff have always been attentive and supportive. His complex medical needs were competently catered for by the professional nursing staff. The carers and events coordinators ensured he was entertained and enjoyed many a hearty joke. When my father had to receive end of life care, the staff stepped up the support to an even higher level. At this time all our family were given every consideration. We feel privileged to have been a part of the Marnel Lodge community and would like to thank them all."

"The staff have been excellent at ensuring my aunt gets the physical care she needs, as well as the emotional reassurance and care as her dementia progresses. Since I live a long distance from Marnel Lodge, I call to check on my aunt, staff are always happy to talk to me and they keep me informed of any changes in the care plan or medications. I would definitely recommend Marnel for dementia care!"

"I asked if a member of staff could attend, to support mum, at our son's wedding. We were fortunate to have the assistance of the two activities assistants at the wedding, however, staff at the home all helped mum have a day to remember. I can't thank everyone enough. An excellent day for all."

"We are really pleased with Marnel Lodge and any problems we might have are due to my mother's inability to feed herself properly whilst refusing any help. As a result, she spills a lot of drinks on herself and in her room and the dining room. The staff are amazing, kind and caring."

"My mother has then up residence as an end of life nursed resident - cannot fault the attention afforded my seriously ill mother from the moment she arrived. Staff are polite, friendly and very caring in all aspects of her care. The home is also very supportive to relatives of residents, and that matters."

"My mother needed to go into Marnel Lodge for respite care. Both she and the family were very apprehensive, particularly in viewing adverse press about other homes. What we found was a bright, clean friendly home where the staff actually do care. The residents retreated with so much respect by staff whose friendliness combined with professionalism is superb and staff wanting to do the job - not just a wage. Should the time come when mum needs permanent care, we have all said we will hold out for a place at Marnel Lodge, such is the standard of all-round care."

"Before moving to Marnel Lodge mum was withdrawn, unhappy and troubled. Within the first few hours of her arriving, she was smiling, chatting and laughing. This has not stopped. She has made new friends and doesn't stop eating. When the moment comes that you have to place your parent into full-time nursing care, it is extremely stressful for everyone involved. I can honestly say my fears went instantly. I just knew mum was in the best place she could be. The staff are friendly, reassuring and caring. They have fun with the residents and have lots of smiles. My 5-year-old son is happy to visit his grandma which means a lot. It reminds me of a 5-star hotel. Thank you, Marnel Lodge."

"Some excellent staff and care with a few requiring to gain experience and confidence. Staff very considerate of relatives. My husband enjoyed his meals and there were frequent snacks between meals. Activities limited by wide-ranging needs of residents with dementia, but staff interact frequently with residents when passing by. End of life care went as planned with dignity and caring."

"During the time my grandmother was a resident at Marnel Lodge, the home was consistently managed to a high standard; taking advantage of being a larger chain with excellent processes, training, and best practice, whilst still delivering the warmth and family-feel of an independent. Staff were caring and friendly, treating everyone with the respect and dignity they deserved. As with my nan, dementia stages can escalate very quickly so having the support of Marnel was a godsend. With a nurse on-site 24/7, it also meant that at the final stage, Nan could remain at the home - pain-free - in her lovely, modern and peaceful room - listening to her special songs. The compassionate Marnel team made what would have been a very traumatic and stressful experience a time where we could say goodbye."

"Mother-in-law very settled in Marnel. She has made a few new friends. All staff are very caring and friendly and address any questions we have very quickly. Activity girls are very good, offering a good range of different activities. All staff work really hard but there are times when I feel that there could be more carers, reassuring residents while they are sat in the lounge, especially in Memory Lane."

"My parents recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary and as they are both residents, we needed to celebrate in an environment where they are comfortable and cared for. The staff couldn't have done more. They made it so much easier for us to arrive from various distances (longest journey was from France) and for us to relax with them. The chef baked a celebration cake and staff were on hand at all times. I cannot praise this care home enough. It truly is my parents home."

"All staff are very friendly with a caring approach. All carers appear to have a lot of knowledge about each resident, meeting their needs. I do feel that at times when I visit there can be over 20 minutes plus when I don't see a carer in the lounge. But I do understand that they may be busy with another resident."

"The building rooms etc one always clean and well presented. The staff are friendly and kind without exception including chefs and maintenance staff. Staff go out of their way to entertain the residents sometimes visitors with ball games, a quiz and sings songs etc. I have not seen meals or know the cost, but I always get invited to tea and cake on a Fridays when my friend and I visit."

"From our first visit to view Barchester Marnel Lodge Care Home, everyone was very friendly and caring. The atmosphere is calm and happy with no blaring TVs. What must be a most distressing experience for my mother has been handled with kindness and understanding. "Jazz evening, an excellent evening attended well by many residents who the staff encouraged to join in and even dance to the music. "My father became a resident of Barchester Marnel Lodge Care Home at the end of 2015 after a fall. Over the last twelve months, the staff have helped him settle in. He has been allowed to make his room his own. Residents and family are kept well informed of activities taking place. Also, I am always notified if my father needs to take any extra medication or when he has fallen."

"My parents spent their last few years in Marnel Lodge, my mum having passed away last July and my dad in April. They settled so well into their lovely rooms and came to love their carers. Unfortunately many carers moved on during that time but those who are still there became loyal friends to my parents, myself and my family. My dad was able to be in Marnel when he passed away. The support and care that we all received meant so much to us. The care home is attractive, welcoming and I felt so at home there. Many thanks to everyone there, especially the nursing staff who helped to make my dad as comfortable as possible towards the end."

"Dad lived at Marnel Lodge Care Home for two and a half years. He wasn't always the easiest character but was always treated with kindness and respect. They went out of their way to make sure his life was enjoyable and interesting. He loved the food and spoke fondly of the staff. We always felt welcome and supported by everyone who worked at the home and any problems were quickly resolved. In his last weeks, the end of life care was superb and the nurses and carers enabled him to have a dignified, comfortable and pain-free death with his family around him."

"Everybody at Marnel Lodge, from domestic staff to the manager is 100% focused on the happiness and individual needs of every resident. Their community get-togethers are amazing. The last one being Halloween. The entertainment was first class and a very high percentage of families and staff joined in, it was a great party. I videoed the evening and posted it on Facebook, I had more than 150 comments on how wonderful it was."
