Respite Care and Short Breaks

Respite Care and Short Breaks

Everyone deserves time out. Whether you care for a relative, are a professional carer, or are in need of permanent care yourself, taking a break from your usual routine can do wonders for you.

As a carer you can relax, knowing that your relative, friend or patient is in a safe, welcoming environment with first class care tailored to their needs. A respite stay at a Barchester Home gives many people the opportunity to experience first rate service amongst friendly and welcoming staff and residents.

Respite stays are always short term. Having said that, the relationships they build between the Home and resident give great reassurance to all concerned, especially if a longer stay ever becomes necessary. Respite care is also ideal for those who are well enough to leave hospital but not yet well enough to return home.

The Right Location

Many of our Barchester homes are set in beautiful countryside locations and are ideal destinations for respite breaks or a short stay whilst your permanent carer is on holiday. Some homes will have rooms set aside for respite stays, others can only offer it if there is a room vacant. Many of our residents also arrange a trial stay as a temporary resident to see if the home is the right choice for them as their new permanent home.

Meeting individual needs

Our aim is to provide seamless continuity of care and our well-trained and qualified staff work hard to ensure that everyone's personal desires and preferences are respected.

Prior to admission, the General Manager will arrange to meet you either in the convenience of your own home or at the Care Home. The General Manager can then assess your care needs, start to get to know you and your likes and dislikes and then tailor a care plan to suit you.

Professional care within the home

Our dedicated teams of care staff within our residential and nursing homes include:

  • Registered Nurses
  • NVQ trained carers (Levels 2 & 3)
  • Social Activity Organisers
  • Visiting GP, Dietician and Pharmacist
  • Physiotherapist*
  • Chiropodist*

Our hospitality teams include:

  • Catering
  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Gardening
  • Maintenance
  • Hairdressing*

*If a member of the above team is not available at the Home we can help arrange for an external specialist to provide this service for an additional charge.

What does it cost?

As no two people are the same, our General Manager can advise you of the cost once the level of care and the length of stay you require has been established. In all circumstances, the fee will include 24 hour care, a comprehensive social activities programme, all meals and hotel and laundry services. Payment is usually required in advance or at the start of the stay.
