Walkers in Cambridge show support for dementia
Many of the participants in the Cambridge Memory Walk were remembering a loved one who had battled with dementia in their final days, or continue to help friends and relatives deal with the consequences each day, the Cambridge news reports.
All proceeds from the event, which are expected to top £15,000, will be going to the Alzheimer's Society.
Among those taking part in the event was 80-year-old Larry Humble, who managed the three-mile course with the help of his family.
Michelle Gederon of the Alzheimer's Society said the event had been a great success and would raise vital funds.
She told the publication: "It was nice and sunny and everyone seemed very positive.
"We had a mixture of people walking – some of them were remembering people who had passed away while others were still being supported by the charity."
A similar event took place in Scarborough on Sunday (September 5th), with well-known TV presenter Lynda Bellingham coming out to support the event, the Scarborough Evening News notes.
