Hospice launches palliative care blog

A hospice in London has launched an online blog to raise awareness and understanding of end-of-life issues surrounding social and palliative care.

St Christopher's Hospice is using the writing skills of Malcolm Payne, a widely-respected author of a number of pieces relating to the subject which are used in the profession worldwide.

Chief executive of St Christopher's Hospice Barbara Munroe said the aim of the blog is to keep palliative care professionals in touch with debates and discussions surrounding their specialty.

She continued: "While we often think of palliative care as mainly a healthcare service, social care reduces the social isolation that many people experience when they have a serious illness."

Ms Munroe added that it also helps to strengthen the family and carers associated with the sufferer and assist them in dealing with bereavement.

St Christopher's is a registered charity, receiving 28 per cent of its £12 million budget from the government and the rest through donations and fundraising activities.
