Parkinson's disease supporters and sufferers show pedal power

A group of people affiliated with the PDS have recently pedalled into Berwick after setting off from Land's End on June 12th.

A group of cycling enthusiasts recently pulled into Berwick, signalling the final stages of a fundraising initiative for the Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS).

Of the six participants in the Land's End to John O'Groats trip, three suffer from Parkinson's disease, including team leader David Greaves, who was diagnosed with the condition six months ago, according to the Berwick Advertiser.

Despite being faced with adversity during their trip, the group asserted that its focus should not be on the journey itself.

Mr Greaves told the newspaper: "It is not about bikes. It's about funding a cure for Parkinson's disease.

"At every stop en route, we have passed on our message that research into a cure for Parkinson's disease is in its end-game phase - it will happen, Parkinson's disease will be cured."

The PDS estimates that around one in 500 people, or 120,000 individuals, have Parkinson's disease in the UK.
