New guide aims to inspire 'person-centred' dementia care
26/03/2008
The Alzheimer's Society has published a new guide to inform family members and carers about the benefits of person centred care.

The Alzheimer's Society has published a new guide to person centred care.

'Inspiring' focuses upon models of good dementia care and tools that care services can use to appraise themselves.

The publication's author, David Sheard stated that the guide will aid family members and care workers alike in determining that constitutes good dementia care.

Neil Hunt, Alzheimer's Society chief executive, said: "Leading the fight against dementia means constantly challenging the way we look at the condition.

"This publication will question preconceived ideas about how we support people and ensure the best quality care for the 700,000 people living with dementia in the UK."

The guide is one in a series from the Alzheimer's Society highlighting how emotions need to be at the centre of supporting dementia sufferers.

According to the organisation, two-thirds of people with dementia live in the community while one-third live in a care home.
