Nell McAndrew calls for people to run for Alzheimer's disease

A model and presenter has asked charitable people to run in aid of the Alzheimer's Society.

Model and TV presenter Nell McAndrew has asked for people to join her in the raising of money for people with dementia across the UK by running in an upcoming event for the Alzheimer's Society.

The organisation was nominated as the charity for this year's Great North Run in Newcastle on September 19th, and Nell's granddad Sam was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease recently.

Running the half-marathon in honour of her relative, the experienced charity runner has already taken part in several marathons.

She said: "Our whole family have been devastated by granddad's diagnosis so I'm delighted to be able to give my support.

"The money raised will improve the lives of people with dementia and their carers. I hope runners of all levels will join me on the run and raise vital funds."

Nell was described by event organisers as a "wonderful role model" for runners wanting to take part.

Despite official figures still stating that 700,000 people in the UK have Alzheimer's disease, the Alzheimer's Research Trust believes the number is closer to 820,000.
