Care commission report to improve services

The English care system must take the advice outlined in the State of Social Care report published yesterday and ensure that improvements are made.

The release of the Commission for Social Care Inspection's (CSCI) latest report will motivate the sector to make positive progress and provide a more consistent service.

Responding to the publication of the social care report, the English Community Care Association (ECCA) has welcomed the suggestions and said that improvements will be made.

"There are many positive messages about improving services that we welcome," commented Martin Green, chief executive of ECCA.

The report indicated an improvement in the overall performance of social care across the country and suggested that further progress could be made by ensuring that local councils are using adequate commissioning strategies.

Mr Green agreed that looking at the "whole picture" would ensure a fair overview of the system and said that financial pressures were also an issue that needed to be addressed.

"People will only receive the quality services that they deserve with adequate funding and strong evidence based commissioning," he explained.

"Independent providers want to provide the best quality care possible and we believe that CSCI's report will help ensure the framework exists to allow them to do this."
