Arthritis Care: Arthritis patients can help relieve their on symptoms
28/03/2008
Arthritis Care claims that patients can help relieve their symptoms with a healthy diet and gentle exercise.

A charity has advised that arthritis patients can do certain things to relieve their own symptoms.

Arthritis Care has stated that it is "a myth" that sufferers can do nothing to ease their symptoms and cites a "balanced diet" and "gentle exercise" as two ways in which they can do so.

"Healthy eating of a balanced diet can reduce weight on joints, improve overall well-being, while gentle exercise like swimming, walking or cycling can strengthen the muscles, keep joints working, preserve or improve range of movement, assist mobility and increase fitness," added a spokesperson for the charity.

She continued to say that exercise can help with pain control, improve sleep and reduce depression and isolation.

Meanwhile, in related news, a study conducted at the University of Dundee has shown that regular doses of cod liver oil could help reduce arthritis patients' need for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs by up to 30 per cent.
