Inspection Ratings
The Commission of Social Care Inspection (CSCI) is an independent body that regularly inspects all care homes in England. From May they will be publishing the ratings they award each home – excellent, good, adequate and poor.
At Barchester we know how difficult it can be to find the right type of care and so, to help those looking for care, we were the first major provider to publish the rating for all our homes.
In Scotland The Care Commission are responsible for the regulation and inspection of care homes and can apply three ratings:
- Low - The best rating which means the home more than meets the required standards and therefore needs minimal support and visits
- Medium - The interim rating where homes meet the standards but may have issues that need to be addressed and therefore need to have more contact with The Care Commission
- High - The lowest rating when homes do not meet the standards or have had complaints or incidents that require regular visits and support from The Care commission
All inspections carried out from 1st April 2008 will be graded on a scale from 1-6 against four quality themes:
- Quality of care and support
- Quality of environment/information
- Quality of staffing
- Quality of management and leadership
In Wales care homes are inspected by The Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) who don't currently publish a rating for each home.
We are proud that our inspection results are higher than the industry average.
