Yorkshire and Humber

Encompassing the majority of Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, this region may boast five big cities but it’s still 80 per cent rural today.  Home to Bradford, Leeds, Sheffield, Kingston upon Hull and York, Yorkshire and Humber is thriving economically thanks to its financial services centre in Leeds, manufacturing hub in Sheffield and textiles industry in Bradford.  But it is its beautifully diverse countryside that attracts most attention.  With three national parks and a long stretch of beautiful coastline, visitors can explore over 1,000 square miles of terrain, including towering cliffs in Whitby, wind-whipped Pennines, lush Yorkshire Wolds and patchwork Dales.  While all this inspired the Bronte sisters in the 1800s, the region is working hard to spread inspiration even further today.   Housing over 180 galleries and museums, six major theatres and events such as Leeds Festival, attended by 70,000 people every August, it is home to a range of talented individuals, including actress Judi Dench, poet Ted Hughes and musicians The Artic Monkeys.
