North Yorkshire

Covering an expansive 3,212 square miles, North Yorkshire is the biggest county in the UK.  Around 40 per cent of the area is covered by two wild and windswept National Parks: the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors.  Both of these beautiful areas are well documented in the television series All Creatures Great and Small, which follows the antics of rural vet James Herriot, and in the 1960’s police series Heartbeat.  The region’s dramatic heritage can be seen in its acting stock, too: Ben Kingsley was born in Snainton and Dame Judi Dench in York.  Meanwhile, the county’s coastline includes the famous resorts of Scarborough and Whitby, and its urban areas are cultural hotspots, from the chic spa town of Harrogate to the impressive city of York, which is steeped in Roman, Viking and Medieval history.  It’s for good reason this picturesque and unspoiled region is nicknamed ‘God’s own county’.
