Cornwall

Forming the tip of the southwest peninsula of Great Britain, Cornwall is still considered one of the Celtic nations today alongside Brittany, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Scotland and Wales.  This comes from being inhabited by Celtic people during the British Iron age, which is where the Cornish language descended.  Tin mining and fishing might have been central to the Cornish economy until the 19th century, but today it is tourism that makes up nearly a quarter of its gross domestic profit.  Each year, five million visitors descend on the county – which is 1,376 square miles in size and home to over 535,000 people, to enjoy its unique culture, spectacular landscape and mild climate.  Amongst these are the surf enthusiasts who head for Newquay and Porthtowan, and eco tourists interested in the Eden Project.  For foodies, there’s also nothing better than the local specialities - clotted cream tea together with Cornish fudge, ice cream and pasties.
