Oxfordshire

This beautiful and historic county is best known for being a centre of academic excellence.  The University of Oxford – the oldest university in the English-speaking world – has nurtured the brains of no fewer than 26 British prime ministers, including David Cameron.  Meanwhile, the nearby Blenheim Palace, located in Woodstock, was the birthplace and ancestral home of Sir Winston Churchill. The Palace grounds were landscaped by Capability Brown, and the magnificent buildings and gardens have lent themselves to the film sets of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.  Oxfordshire has two designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: the 75-miles of rolling Chiltern Hills and the quaint chocolate-box villages of the Cotswolds.
