Marnel Lodge Care Home

Bringing more first-class care to Basingstoke
Marnel Lodge delivers nursing and residential care services as well as personalised dementia care in one of Barchester's unique Memory Lane Communities. In addition, the home will have the facilities to care for younger people with physical disabilities.
The whole home is designed to create a home-like feel with furnishings designed with older people in mind, from the sofas and chairs in the living rooms to the easily accessible sculpted gardens and first floor terraces, which offer stunning uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside. Throughout the home there is a range of communal and dining facilities to suit people who enjoy socialising as well as those who prefer quieter activities.
The Memory Lane Community at Marnel Lodge is specially designed for those living with a dementia using colour schemes that easily enable residents to identify areas within the home. This area also features life skills kitchens, where residents can be involved in everyday kitchen activities such as baking and setting the table.

AN UNDERSTANDING OF PARKINSON'S DISEASE

Christmas Cake
In December, residents thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the making of our Christmas Cake for the Barchester Christmas Cake competition. Although Marnel Lodge was not successful in this years competition, the final cake looked lovely. So watch out for us next year!

Marnel's Gardening Club gets busy
With the beautiful spring weather recently, Marnel's gardening club got busy with the first stop being to the local garden centre to choose some suitable plants. Our residents had plenty of advice to offer to ensure the garden would be able to compete with the stunning countryside surrounding the home. Then it was time to get down to the hard work. Everyone agreed that the effort was worth while when the residents and staff settled in the garden to enjoy the fruits of their labour.

Marnel Lodge has Royal icing at the ready
Residents at Marnel Lodge along with the help of the activities team and Chris the chef, tested their culinary skills in a regal cake bake fit for a prince and princess. With Will and Kate hysteria reaching fever pitch, the cake formed the centre piece of the home's celebrations on the big day. The residents decided on a traditional sponge cake, painstakingly adorned with edible daises and hearts. Ann the activities co-ordinator said. "We have had lots of fun decorating the cake and I\'m sure our cake, will give the official royal wedding cake a run for its money.

Tying the knot in the royal bunting
Marnel Lodge celebrated the Royal wedding in style with bunting, patriotic flags and Champagne toasts held high. The residents and staff had a lovely day enjoying the stately event together. Our very own married couple Ted and Betty did the honours by cutting Marnel's own beautiful wedding cake made by the residents. Maureen McDonagh, General Manager at the home, said: "Many of our residents not only remember celebrating the Prince of Wales' marriage but also recall the wedding of the then Princess Elizabeth to the Duke of Edinburgh in the post-war Britain of 1947.
