Buckinghamshire

A home county due to its border with London, Buckinghamshire is best known for its open countryside and natural features, which include the Chiltern Hills and two of the four longest rivers in England – The River Thames and The River Great Ouse.  Its fertile agricultural land has led to many landed estates being based there over the years – most famously the Rothschild banking family in the 19th century – and it has continued to inspire artists, writers and film directors ever since.  These include everyone from children’s author Roald Dahl, who included many features and characters of the area in his works, to the more recent Midsomer Murders series on ITV, shot in Aylesbury since its inception in 1997.
