Rose Gillen's 100th Birthday
Five generations of the same family came together to celebrate a great, great grandmother from Port Glasgow's 100th birthday. Rose Gillen marked the magical milestone with a big party at Balclutha Court care home - and she was not short of good company. More than 100 well wi s h e r s joined her, with some from as far afield as Australia! Rose received flowers, cakes, gifts and cards - including a special message from the Queen. Born and brought up in Port Glasgow, Rose worked as a conductress on the local buses before she married in 1939. She and husband John, who was a skipper and later an engineer machinist, moved to Greenock and went on to have six children. Rose now has 20 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren. Anne added: "I would like to thank the staff at Balclutha for the care they give mum.
