Merton

This southwest London district is home to the legendary WimbledonTennis Championships, which welcomes over 200,000 visitors to the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club over a fortnight every June and July.  Also in the Wimbledonarea is Merton Abbey Mills, the former home of William Morris silk-printing for the world famous Liberty of London store.  More recently, it has been transformed into a social hub, housing craft shops, a weekend market, pubs and restaurants.  This is a particularly green and leafy suburban London borough, with 14 local nature reserves and over 60 public parks of various sizes.  The River Wandle also meanders through, with the National Trust property Morden Hall Park and the riding stables of Deen City Farm along its banks.  Much of the former ITV police drama series The Bill was filmed in Merton, particularly in the districts of Mitcham and Colliers Wood.
