Hounslow

First existing as a small village and later market town in the 1200s, today Hounslow is London’s tenth largest borough.  Located just 10.6 miles from the city centre, and spread over 56 square kilometres, the borough has a long history of travel and tourism.  Developing either side of the old Great West Road, which ran from London to the West of England, Hounslow was originally the site of a large number of ‘inns’ built to serve travellers passing through.  Today, it has many more hotels due to its proximity to Heathrow Airport.  Tourists aside though, Hounslow also stands out for its green credentials.  Home to London’s largest nature reserve, Hounslow Heath, it boasts over 132 different species of birds.
