Enfield

A busy market town dating back to the start of the 1300s, Enfield is one of the most affluent boroughs in London today.  In fact, it was the same a few hundred years ago when wealthy central Londoners came to area first to hunt and then later to build houses in the green, wooded surroundings.  Today, it continues to offers residents and tourists an eclectic mix of countryside and parks, markets and museums, including the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture.  It’s also gained fame for its enterprising spirit and pioneering pursuits in recent years.  It was the first place worldwide to have an ATM machine installed, in June 1967.  The world’s first solid-state circuitry colour television was also manufactured in Enfield as was the first mass produced dishwasher.
