Hertfordshire

From its canals and market towns to picturesque villages and bluebell woods, Hertfordshire, also known as ‘England’s hidden garden’, is one of the East of England’s most inspiring counties.  With evidence of human activity there in the Middle Stone Age, the population has continued to grow ever since.  Today, it is home to over 1.1m people spread across its 634 square miles.  And while much of the county is still used for agriculture, it’s gained prominence in a variety of other industries too.  Businesses based here include Tesco, JD Wetherspoon and Comet.  It is also the location of MGM British Studios in Borehamwood, where filming for many of the UK’s top movies take place – including James Bond, Star Wars and the Harry Potter Series.  But Hertfordshire was inspiring great entertainment long before this, with literary masterpieces based there, including Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, George Orwell’s Animal Farm and Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest.
