East Midlands

With the second lowest population density in England, and 88 per cent of the land deemed rural, the East Midlands has consistently turned this to their favour.  Comprising Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire, it is home to many famous landmarks.  There’s the Peak District in Derbyshire, deemed the second most popular national part in the world after Mount Fuji, and Britain’s first National Park in 1951.  Sherwood Forest is located in Nottingham, while Rockingham Forest, a former medieval hunting ground for William the Conqueror and many kings and queens, is based in Northamptonshire.  Meanwhile the coastal towns in Skegness and Lincolnshire offer top entertainment, with everything from Butlins to Centre Parcs.  But the region’s rural offering has also made it rich inspiration for industry.  Together with Leicester’s Walkers Crisps, which are made exclusively from potatoes grown in Lincolnshire, the region is now also famous for its Stilton and Red Leicester cheese, Lincolnshire sausages, Bakewell tarts and Bramley apples.
