Colourful costumes along with food and music from around the world helped make for a successful cultural afternoon at a Newham residential home. The fun and popular event took place at Westgate House Care Home, Forest Gate. It provides residential, nursing and dementia care for 80 people. Staff dressed in their own national costume for a competition where they performed various traditional dances for the residents. The chef and staff prepared food from around the globe including Ghana, Uganda, the Philippines, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Entertainment came from a Newham-based steel band whose members have their family origins in Uganda. The event - first held there last year – was again a big success, said the home's general manager Brinah Nyumugure. It will be held annually.
