19/06/2008
Care Home staff win double award at national Care Award evening hosted by TV's Fiona Phillips. The Memory Lane Team at Threshfield Court attended a glittering awards ceremony at the Marble Arch Thistle Hotel last Thursday. They were presented with an award for their Person Centred Innovative Dementia Care by TV's Fiona Phillips and then given a surprise special "Butterfly Award" presented by David Sheard from Dementia Care Matters. This award was presented for "demonstrating real heart in improving the quality of life for real people living with a dementia". The Memory Lane Team were selected from hundreds of nominations for their achievements for excellence in person centred dementia care. The annual Barchester Care Awards aim to celebrate the amazing standards of care the staff at Barchester homes across the UK provide to their residents by recognising staff who have made a special difference to residents' lives. Val Gains, General Manager said: "I am so proud of the Team on Memory Lane, they are highly skilled people that work together to improve the lives of people with dementia. During the last 12 months we have had an immense amount of specialised training and as a result have made major changes to the environment and the way that social interactions between the people who live on Memory Lane and the people who work on Memory Lane take place. We are breaking down the barriers of carer and resident and building relationships with the people who live with us. The surprise special award was the icing on the cake presented to the team by David Sheard of Dementia Care Matters, he said some wonderful things about Threshfield Court, it was quite an emotional moment that touched us all".
