Staff and residents at Threshfield Court held a special luncheon event on Friday 25 July to mark the home's entry into a national Chef and activities competition to celebrate great food and the amazing lives of their residents. The special event at Threshfield Court saw residents and staff enjoy a 5 course lunch with entertainment between courses and readings from a "This is your life" style book that the residents and their relatives contributed to. The entertainment reflected the careers of - health professionals (Dr Jackson as Peter Sellars with Liz Bedford as Sophia Loren), teaching (Noel naughty schoolboy Storey and Helen Hepworth as the teacher). Dr Jackson also performed "The Seven Ages of man" from Shakespeares "As you like I" whilst being heckled by "Helen Seven ages of Woman Hepworth". General Manager, Val Gains read out five moving extracts from the red book telling the story of the lives of five residents. There was also a surprise award presentation of a land army medal to resident Betty Shuttleworth in recognition of her work during the second world war and Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow (Dementia Training) certificate were presented by Terry Tucker ( Barchester's learning and development Director) to two of the staff Vicky Hallewell and Arman Pantaleon. During the weeks before the event life stories were written and old photographs were found to go in the book. Reminiscence boxes were created and everyone had lots of fun using these throughout the home, reliving experiences and remembering good times. Out of all 170 homes, just six Activity Co-ordinators will make it through to the final stage of the competition; last year we were all thrilled when Helen Hepworth of Threshfield Court came second and we are all hoping she is going to clinch first prize this time. The luncheon served was magnificent 5 star dining with Head Chef Jason Smith serving at least 3 choices for each course with dishes such as "Double Salmon Tian"," Duck Breast with Raspberry & Port sauce" and "Lemon Tart with Blackcurrant Couli". A master chef style ‘cook off' at Westminster College, London will be held on Friday 21st November. Each of six Chefs chosen will then prepare a meal to be judged by celebrity Chef and Barchester ambassador for nutrition, Paul Rankin.
