Care home residents and furry friends enjoy a picnic
27/06/2008
Stamford Bridge Beaumont care home's residents, some local youngsters and a few cuddly companions recently enjoyed a picnic in the sun.

Residents of the Stamford Bridge Beaumont care home in York were treated to a fun-filled teddy bears' picnic last week.

Organised by staff at the care home, the event saw the residents joined by the Stamford Bridge Early Learners pre-school club and of course their cuddly companions.
All involved enjoyed games and refreshments and a breath of fresh air at the outdoor event.

Helen Lewis, general manager at the nursing care home, said that both staff and residents enjoyed spending the afternoon with the youngsters.

"As a care home we want to interact with the local community and we always find they get as much benefit from meeting our residents as they do from being out and about," she added.

The event was held as part of a National Association for Providers of Activities for Older People initiative which aims to encourage care homes to find new ways to get their residents out into the sunshine.

Other activities planned at the Stamford Bridge Beaumont include an open-air church service, al fresco painting and an outdoor exercise class with the home's physiotherapist.

Stamford Bridge Beaumont care home is part of the Barchester Group and was previously awarded a "good" rating by the Commission for Social Care Inspection.
