Barchester residents enjoy Yorkshire culinary delights
12/08/2008
A fantastic fun event marked the county's day of celebration.

Staff and residents at a Barchester care home have celebrated Yorkshire Day in fine culinary style.

The event held at the Beaumont Stamford Bridge Care Home featured a special menu prepared by head chef Dawn Scholefield, which she is entering into this year's national Barchester Chef competition.

Ms Scholefield's fare - which among other local gems featured a starter of Whitby crab salad and a main course of slow-roasted Yorkshire lamb - is going up against the wealth of cooking talent at Barchester's 170 care homes across the UK.

After the tasty lunch, residents at the Beaumont Stamford Bridge Care Home were able to enjoy a happy hour - when they sampled fine Yorkshire beers while sharing fond memories of their lives in the county.

There was an impressive afternoon tea, which included Yorkshire Curd Tart Scones with homemade jam made from strawberries hand-picked by residents at the local farm shop.

Later on, residents were able to enjoy famous Yorkshire songs delivered by the local Malton White Star Brass Band and entertainer Les Hodgson.

The Beaumont Stamford Bridge care home is a Georgian listed building situated near York, offering highly-qualified staff and specialist care provision for residents with dementia.
