Former land girl awarded badge for her important work during the war.

A Barchester care home resident has been honoured for her efforts during the second world war.

Former land girl Joyce Goodhind, 85, has gained recognition from the government for her work on a farm in York as part of the war effort, the Macclesfield Express reports.

Prestbury Beaumont Care Community resident Joyce has been awarded a special badge, which she can proudly wear during ceremonial occasions such as Remembrance Sunday.

According to the news provider, Joyce said that all the reward she needed was a "well done" from her boss at the time, adding: "But I do keep walking around the home with the medal on my neck, admiring it as I go!"

Joyce continued: "I do feel proud of all the hard work we put in during the war."

Prestbury Beaumont Care Community has a range of apartments and bungalows for independent living, while the main house offers 24-hour nursing care.

The care home - which celebrated its 20th birthday on September 12th 2008 - is rated "Excellent" by the Commission of Social Care Inspection.
