Mount Vale Olympics

15/08/2008

Today saw the Olympics - Mount Vale style!

Though the sunshine may have been lacking the air quality was perfect, fresh Yorkshire air.

Children from the Sunflowers Nursery took part in The Extreme Sport of Egg and Spoon Balancing, The Fun Obstacle Course, and not forgetting the Complexity of the Three Legged Race - all sports we are hoping to see included in the 2012 London Olympics!

Residents and Staff formed teams with the children. Whilst not all 203 participating nations could be represented we did manage to raise the average age of competitors to 55!

Training had taken a back seat since the exertion of ‘wellie whanging' on Yorkshire Day but the teams felt prepared for the day's events.

Bunting fluttered in the breeze as the tension mounted before the off of the first event.

First on to the winners podium was Jean Woodburn resident at Mount Vale excelling in the Egg & Spoon Race.

Next came the three legged race the crowd cheered home the winners.

Finally to round of the Mount Vale Olympics a Teddy Bears picnic was enjoyed by all, bears and owners feasted on tea and cakes, truly a must for all Olympians!

Sarah Broadbent said ‘ it is lovely to see our residents and the Sunflower Nursery children taking part in our Olympics and really enjoying themselves' Residents  Emma Benson and Emily Osborn said ‘ how lovely it was to see the children enjoying the games'.
